The Stitch Lounge photos- 24/9/11

The theme this time was colour blocking. Our great sponsor The Cloth Shop gave us fabulous colours- the scarlet disappeared in seconds. As I believe that the vibrant colours should be exposed not blocked I went for orange for the long version of the bee skirt and mint and lemon for the Alice dress. Gosh! How I would love to own the pattern!

My very first skirt:)

Inspired by Bee Skirt I created my very first skirt!
And I love it! The cotton fabric is lovely. It can be made really quickly and without much of the trouble so no flustrations. Even fitting the invisible zip went nice and smooth (despite the fact that my machine failed on sewing the zip) The pattern and the instructions were very straight forward and helpful.
The only problem I have encountered was the sizing. The skirt turned to be 2 sizes to big even when I cut the pattern a size too small. But do I regret it? No! I'll just make another one:)))

Half-an-hour projects take 1

Those cushion covers were made on request in 20 min. Nothing special but they are blue, fluffy and add a bit of colour to our lounge not mentioning the sofa. Sasha loves them already:)

My variation of Craftsy's Book Bag

Inspired by Book Bag I decided to make my own one. I didn't follow exactly the pattern- went slightly my way, which is not bad- just different. Fabric if thin (cotton) reinforced by an interfacing and I attached just a ribbon handle. Not bad for an hour project I hope:)

Whipstitch- another inspiration

I guess I came across Whipstitch on CraftGossip and OMG! So inspirational!
First there was the tutorial with the film to it:

then I found the post on the blog about emergency dress:

What Deborah wrote about the dress and the attitude to sewing- got me thinking, so, 1/ On my way to at last finish my project; 2/ prepare to make the bee skirt

art&craft library

Wooho! I seem to be very active today!;P
Back to the topic:)
For some tame I was looking for books on sewing, crafts, quilting etc. and was slightly terrified when checking the prices. As I am fairly new "in the business" I thought I cannot effort buying books without checking if there are of any use for me. Then I discovered that my libraries have vast amounts of great books on topics I am interested in. I have to say I enjoy collecting new ones every week, writing down ideas in my own sewing scrapbook and if the book is useful- ordering one for myself. Soon I am going to publish the titles I found very interesting- my own reference library:)
Back to sewing!
Have a lovely day:)

where to find materials for your work?

What I am going to write now isn't probably any news for most of the crafters, but from the beginning of FuFiFu (that's the shorter version of Funky Frilly Furry;)) I was wondering where on Earth I am going to stock up without the fear of bankruptcy. Then one day when I was clearing out my wardrobe I found plenty of good quality dresses, tops, scarves and other fabrics that I won't either wear nor sell as they are scarred in some way and they are too good quality to throw away. What could go to charity shops already is there so why not have a great window panel from a slightly ripped rushed skirt? Or a tea cosy from a size 4 polka dot dress no one wants to even try on? Does it sound like my own definition of upcycling? ;)

my inspiration

That is my inspiration for my submissions for Fife Art Exhibition:)
Got creative yesterday, creating two tea cosies- one for my Granny and the one with a bold flower for a friend.

And I figured out how to re-purpose a pouch into a glasses cover:)

Welcome

Welcome, dear Visitor, to my crazy world of crafts. As I have just started my journey with blogs and websites I hope there won't be many hiccups:)

As tomorrow is my birthday I am making myself a nice dress. My second one I ever made and first one out of pattern. I still have a couple of hours to finish- pieces cut, some of them still need to dry- now it's time to stitch. Wish me luck:)

Saturday 9 July 2011

Let's get that party started:)

A very warm welcome to you, visitor! Apologies for anything which is not working properly yet- it's still work in progress.
